Abstract : This study aimed to investigate the pitch and intensity patterns in Persian news summaries. The data were collected by recording ten male newsreader's oral performances on a nation-wide state-run radio station. Recorded data were analyzed using Praat phonetics software version 5.3.61(2013). Measuring of F0 in the onset of the first sentence of each paratone one may claim that in contrast to what Wichmann used in her studies (2000), pitch reset is used neither for a new sentence nor for a new paratone. Prosadically, structural boundaries are not indicated by F0 changes in Persian while in English it can be indicated that F0 ranges are higher in pitch reset in the beginning of each news item. Also intensity (loudness) is not a cue for structural boundaries with Persian news readers. For instance, when the onset's intensity in first paratone is compared to others, we can expect that the intensity marks the beginning of the sentence, but the result of this study showed that it was not the case either. In conclusion, the results of this study employ that Persian paratones (unlike English ones) are marked neither by pitch nor intensity resets..
