Abstract : The present study investigated the rhetorical structure of Results sections of 45 Persian research articles across three disciplines of Applied Linguistics, Civil Engineering and Social Sciences. The Results section of all scientific research articles were selected randomly from three leading journals published in the recent year (2013) and analyzed according to Ruiying and Allison's (2003) model presented for the Results sections of research articles. With this purpose in mind, genre analysis was applied, as a potentially useful tool in exploring microstructure of the Results sections of scientific research articles in terms of communicative moves and subsequent steps. It was found that the fundamental and obligatory communicative categories in the Results units of research articles are Move 1: Preparatory information, Move 2: Reporting the results and Move 3: Commenting on the results. On one hand, it was found that most of the moves that Ruiying and Allison's (2003) postulates for investigating the Results sections had been reflected in the Result and Conclusion units of the research articles that constitute our corpus and no instances of moves and steps outside the parameters of the adopted model was found in the sample analyzed. On the other hand, there were significant differences in the performance of three Persian groups in using specific rhetorical moves and steps. The analysis concluded that there are some interdisciplinary differences among authors in three disciplines and various differences between native Persian speakers in the number and type of moves and steps used..
