Abstract	:	This thesis describes the devdopment of a high-performance PulsedHigh-Voltage Atmospheric Pressure Ion Source for coupling a massspectrometry system with an HPLC system. This novelty of the designresides in a modified ekctrospray system, which in addition to its normalDC operation, provides high-voltage of up to 30kV on the capillary byintroducing high-voltage pulsing, the Pulsed Hq&-Voltage API is predictedto allow a higher liquid throughput and a reduction in backgroundcontamination while maintaining an efficient ionization of the moleculesunder investigation. The Pulsed High-Voltage API is expected to havepossible gains in sensitivity, versatility, and reIiability of operation..
