Abstract : Ihe motivation for investigating spectral analysis methods that are physiologically based is togain an understanding of how the human auditory system processes speech, so as to be able todesign and implement robust. efficient methods of analyzing and represenhag speech. h thisthesis the cochlear filter bank is modeled by a lowpass filter cascaded model. In order to modelthe effect of a notch in the Frequency response approximately one octave below the centerfrequency a second filter is followed after each notchi resonant filter in the cascaded model. Wealso employed the genetic algorithms to optimne the tilter parameters. The filters in the modelare implemented using four-multiply nornialized ladder filter form. h this thesis we alsoexplored the ensemble interval histogram (EM) reprcsentation in the speech recognition. Thisrepresentation models the properties of the post auditory-nerve nuclei in the human auditmysystem. The simulation results show that the ovcrall recognition rate is i n d a little..
