Abstract	:	By 1919, Mexico was the second largest petroleum producer in the world. American,British, and French companies had all contributed huge amounts of capital to thedevelopment of Mexican petroleum fields. The multinational petroleum enterprisesthat operated in Mexico came under severe criticism because of how they treatedtheir workers, their failure to adhere to the Mexican Law, and the evasion of taxes.In general, the workers were underpaid and this precipitated a large number ofstrikes in the early years of the 2oth cenhry..
