Abstract	:	In this era of broadband and high speed networks, there are still some (e-g. theArmed Forces) who require models for narrowband networks. Narrowband links canbe a satellite link, a radio frequency link or even a terrestrial link. The rate oferror appearing on these links is different kom one Link to another. For this reason,this thesis evaluates the effects that increasing the error rate has on the trafEic ofthe network. In order to achieve this, a test network is set-up for the purpose ofcollecting data when different error rates are injected into the link. The first- andsecond-order st atistics as well as the st atistical distributions are analyzed for thetrafhc measurements. The results show that the statistics vary with the rate of errors,however the distribution type does not. The resulting distributions also indicate thatthe current traffic models, which are developed for broadband networks, might notbe appropriate for narrowband networks..
