Abstract	:	Multi span lightwave communication systems using non-dispersion shifted fibre re-quire periodic signal amplification and dispersion compensation. An attractive met hodof compensating for fibre dispersion is to use a dispersion compensating grating(DCG), since it is linear, passive, compact and relatively inexpensive. DCGs havenon-ideal properties in their response characteristics which affect system performance.It is found that ripples in the delay spectrum affect system performance more so thanripples in the magnitude spectrum. The group delay ripple results.
