Abstract	:	The overall purpose of this study is to show how Fiber Bragg gratings canbe used as inbuilt optical fiber communication system components, to serve aspulse compressors for dispersion compensation. Dispersion causes thepropagating pulses inside the fiber, to expand in width because differentwavelength components of the pulse travel at different group velocities, thus theyall reach the receiving end of the fiber at different times.Pulse compressors rely on two separate functional sections. The firstsection is for bandwidth generation through self-phase modulation and chirplinearization through normal dispersion. In conventional compressors this firstsection consists of a normal dispersion fiber of appropriate length. The secondsection is to compensate for this linear chirp through anomalous dispersion,typically in the form of a prism pair or grating pair.
