Abstract	:	The purpose of this project was to design an instrument capable of detectingmicrobes in liquid samples. The project consisted of four major sections: optical design,digital hardware, analog hardware, and software. This thesis includes only the analoghardware portion of the system. This includes detectors, amplifier, light sources andpower supplies. The remaining portions of the system are covered in the master's thesescompleted by Cory Estes and Brad Wade.Detection of low-intensity light pulses is accomplished using a three-stageamplifier design.
