Abstract	:	A detailed analysis OF optical limiting studies with picosecond and nanosecondlaser pulses propagating within liquid crystal cored fibers are presented with theoreticalmodels that explicate linear, hvo-photon, intermediate, excited-state absorptions andthermal i density effects. Specific expressions for the nonlinear transmission. opticallimiting performance, laser induced changes of molecular level populations are obtainedfor laser pulses in both picosecond and nanosecond regimes. The theoretical simulationsand experimental results provide a Function to characterize the limiting effectiveness ofL34 and other nonlinear fiber core liquid crystals.
