Abstract : This thesis makes advances in three dimensional finite element analysis of electricalmachines and the quantification of their parameters and performance. The principalobjectives of the thesis are:the development of a stable and accurate method of nonlinear three-dimensionalfield computation and application to electrical machinery and devices: andimprovement in the accuracy of determination of performance parameters,particularly forces and torque computed from finite elements.Contributions are made in two general areas: a more efficient formulation for threedimensional finite element analysis which saves time and improves accuracq: andnew post-processing techniques to calculate flus density values from a given finiteelement solution.-4 novel three-dimensional magnetostatic solution based on a modified scalarpotential met hod is implemented. This method has significant advantages over thetraditional total scalar: reduced scalar or vector potential methods.
