It gave me great pleasure when Professor Atkinson first asked me to work on hisrecent contributions in the field of productivity and efficiency measurement. Sincethen, Professor Atkinson has devoted an immeasurable amount of time and effort tohelping me to complete this dissertation. In the process, I have benefitted immenselyfrom his expertise and knowledge. He never tired of encouraging, supporting, andeducating me. For all this, I would like to thank Professor Atkinson.
