Abstract : Existing cognitive modeling systems primarily rely of a comparison of human performance tothat generated by ii model of the same cognitive task to determine the level of explanation of aconstructed model. We presents the theoretical background, computational design, and modelingresults of a new cognitive modeling approach called the Adaptive Modeling environment forExplanatory Based Agent (AMEBA). The AMEBA system combines the explanatory aspects ofexisting symbolic modeling systems, like Soar. ACT-R. EPIC and 4CAPS. with the computationalflrxi bility of a multiagent approach to Distributed Artificial Intelligence (DAI).
