Abstract : In this dissertation the implemcntatinn of high order rurfacr irnptdance hundaryconditions for ۰mite differcnce time domain method is reported. Up to the present time this method hasbeen limited to low order approximation, which is suitable only for planar surfaces. This work extendsthe method to include curved surfaces by taking into account tangential diffusion of elcctromagnctlcfields in bodies with a finite conductivity. The high order (the order of Rytov's approximation) relationbctwccn tangential components of elcctric and magnetic fields on the surface of a scattercr m the timedomain is used to update furite difference equations for the boundary cells. Naturally these equationsbecome implicit for dispcraive medium since they contain time convolution terms. Using theperturbation technique by expanding the magnetic field in asymptotic series in a small parameter (ratioof tangential to normal variation of the field on the surface of the scatterer) the update equations for theboundary cells are transformed to a series of equations....-....,....-...,..tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
