Abstract : A mode-matching method is presented for analyzing a junction discontinuity in acylindrical waveguide lying within the interior of a larger waveguide. Two cases aresolved involving the constraints of the inner cylindrical junction: one where the junctionwas capped or closed and the other where the junction remains open ended. The standardmethod for solving this is expanding the fieids in terms of a finite number propagatingTE and TM modes. The unknown expansion coefficients are determined by imposing theboundary conditions that the tangential electric and magnetic fields are continuous acrossthe junction.
