Abstract	:	There is a great necessity in Puerto Rico for the search of renewable energysources, because actually 99 of the energy is generated from imported petroleum. Thesoil of this island has favorable conditions for the production of energy sugar cane. Thisplant is a solar energy collector, which stores the energy as biomass. Biomass, alsoknown as 1ignoceUulose can be fractionated in its main components, cellulose,hemicellulose and lignin, which can be used as raw materials to produce other industrialproducts and would help to reduce the dependence on imported energy sources, wouldreduce air pollution and would help to boost up agriculture.There are various methods tohctionate biomass.
