Abstract : There are many problems associated with traditional energy use: human health effects,regional and global environmental effects, security issues, economics, etc. Switching toclean energy sources such as solar and wind power would eliminate all of these problems.However, using clean energy on a large scale comes with technical challenges likeregional availability, intermittence, and inconvenient fonn. Hydrogen energy is anelegant solution to all of these challenges. One of the first applications for hydrogenenergy will be integrated power systems for remote locations that include both energygeneration and storage. This thesis describes the design and building of such a system atthe Desert Research Institute in Reno, Nevada.
