Abstract : This research demonstrated the first closed-loop implementation of adaptiveautomation using operator functional state in an operationally relevant environment. Inthe Uninhabited Combat Air Vehicle (UCAV) environment, operators can becomecognitively overloaded and their performance may decrease during mission criticalevents. Additionally, pervasive automation could degrade UCAV operator situationawareness and capability to react appropriately to unusual events.
