Abstract : As the drive towards greater magnetic storage densities and device miniaturization has continued toincrease, research and development in the area of ultrathin films and multilayers has risen.Correspondingly, thermal magnetic aftereffect, which is an important factor placing limits on theachievable recordable density in recording media has become a significant topic of research. In thisdissertation, the thermal fluctuations in magnetization, which eventually lead to the reversal ofmagnetization, have been analyzed in terms of the fluctuation field and the decay coefficient and theirtemperature dependence has been discussed.It was shown in the Preisach-Arrhenius model that the fluctuation field could be computed as the slopeof the translation, in log time, of the aftereffect curves as a function of the holding fields.
