Abstract	:	The gas turbine engine uses an yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) coating to providethermal insulation for its turbine blades. This YSZ coating must be tetragonal in crystalsturcutre, columnar in microstructure, and be 100-250 pm thick to provide for adequateprotection for the turbine blades in the severe engine environment.
