Abstract : This dissertation discusses the ability of time- and frequency-domain electromagneticinduction (EMI) systems to discriminate unexploded ordnance (UXO) fromclutter. The chief contribution of this work is to demonstrate the importance of extremelylow frequency (ELF) data in discrimination of thick and thin-walled ferrousUXO-like targets that are otherwise visually identical. It is demonstrated that whendata in the 30 Hz to 24 kHz range is extended down to 1 Hz discrimination performanceimproves by a factor of 1.5. Improved discrimination performance reducesfalse alarms and ultimately lowers remediation costs...tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
