Abstract	:	This thesis explains the development stages of an expert system for the evaluation andselection of building elements during the early stages of architectural design. Thisexpert system is called BES. It is produced after two prototypes were established.Testing of BES is made on professional architects who are from both academia and thepractical construction market of Northern Cyprus. BES is intended to be used byexperienced and inexperienced architects.The model includes selection of all kinds of main building elements that areavailable like retaining walls, foundations, external walls, internal walls, floors, externalstairs, internal stairs, roofs, external chimneys, internal chimneys, windows and externaldoors and internal doors and their sub-type building elements. The selection is achievedvia SMART Methodology depending on the performance requirements and an expertsystem shell Exsys Cowid version 1.2.14tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
