Abstract : Rechargeable lithium metal batteries are potential next-generation power sources forportable electronic devices and electric vehicles due to their high-energy density, low selfdischargerate, and environmentally benign construction materials. However, the highreactivity of lithium metal with the electrolyte impedes their commercialization. Theaddition of surface-functionalized colloidal fillers (fumed silica) to form composite polymerelectrolytes (CPEs) produces a network structure that reduces reactivity with lithium metaland mitigates dendrite formation during cycling. Further improvements in performance canbe achieved with enhancement of mechanical properties.
