Abstract : One of the outstanding problems in modeling of the magnetosphere-ionosphere-thermosphere system is the quantitative bias systematically seen in simulated thermo-sphere and ionosphere responses to magnetospheric forcing. This systematic bias isconsidered t o be attributed largely to insufficient Joule heating.
