Abstract	:	A rigorous econometric calibration of a model of energy consumption is presented using acomprehensive time series database on energy consumption and other socioeconomic indica-tors. The future of nuclear power in the evolving distribution of various energy sources is alsoexamined. An important consideration for the long-term future of nuclear power concernsthe rate of decline of the fraction of energy that comes from coal, which has historicallydeclined on a global basis about linearly as a function of the cumulative use of coal. Theuse of fluid fossil fuels is also expected to eventually decline as the more readily extractabledeposits are depleted. The investigation here is restricted to examining a comparativelysimple model of the dynamics of competition between nuclear and other competing energysources..
