Abstract
:
The search for high temperature membrane materials for fuel cell applications is arapidly growing area of research. The advantages of operating at elevatedtemperatures include overcoming the catalyst limitations of the DMFC andimproving the carbon monoxide tolerance of the reformate fueled PEM fuel cell,potentially reducing the size, cost and complexity of the fuel cell system.Polymeric membranes are widely used in fuel cell applications. Poly Ether EtherKetone (PEEK) is generally used in proton exchange membrane (PEM) fuel cells.PEEK is usually sulfonated to improve its expected properties in terms of betterwettability, higher water flux, higher antifouling capacity, better selectivity andincreased solubility. In recent years, our research group developed low cost, highconducting and chemically stable composite membranes for PEM fuel cell byincorporation of powder inorganic boron phosphate (BP04) into Sulfonated PEEK(SPEEK) polymer matrix and also by blending polyetherimide (PEI), polysulfone(PSU) into SPEEK separately. In this study, the thermal and rheologicalcharacterizations of these newly developed.
