Abstract	:	In the recent years there has been an increase in Voice over Internet Protocol(VolP) traffic. There are occasions when the speech sounds garbled or brokendue the amount of congestion in the network. This problem is persistent withdifferent VolP supporting software because of the lack of special codecs fortelephonic audio. This research is focused on designing an adaptive algorithm forVolP traffic. The adaptive algorithm is based on selective data-rate of 64 kbps,56 kbps, 48 kbps and 32 kbps based on congestion in the network. Thesedifferent data-rates are achieved.
