Abstract : This thesis will discuss the drawbacks and advantages of conventional LADARsystems and present the use of FPGA-based systems to overcome many disadvantagesfaced today. Several new methods that have not been practical with conventionalLADAR systems will be presented and shown to be effective when implemented in anFPGA-based system. These new methods include reconfigurable digital correction duringacquisition, distortion reduction in real time before acquisition, and dynamic automatedadaptation of the system..
