Abstract	:	The objective of this thesis is to investigate the power system stability enhancement viapower system stabilizers (PSSs) and Flexible AC Transmission System (FACTS) basedcontrollers. This stucty includes possible coordination between PSSs and FACTS-basedcontrollers. The different proposed FACTS-Based stabilizers recently reported in theliterature are discussed The design problem of PSS and FACTS controller is formulatedas an optimization problem. The particle swarm optimization (PSO) algorithm isemployed to search for optimal controller's parameters. In addition, this study ispresented a singular value decomposition (SW) based approach to assess and measurethe controllability of the poorly damped electromechanical modes by different inputs. Thenonlinear time-domain simulation is carried out throughout the thesis to validate theeffectiveness of the proposed controllers. The controllers are simulated and tested underdifferent operating conditions..
