Abstract	:	This thesis examines the effect of queueing delay on the performance of audiostreaming servers. Experiments using a traffic generator constructed from a cluster ofcomputers and an audio source are performed. The experimental results show: (1) thevariations of the network delay and the packet loss detrimentally affect the audio qualityat the client; (2) the adaptive rate changes at the server and retransmission can improvethe quality of the audio significantly at the client. An analytical model based on theM I D I 1 queue is compared to the simulation and experimental results. The simulationderived results show good agreement with the theory and experiment. An approximationof the network delay is given that shows a good match with the exact solution andsimuation derived results..
