Abstract : This research assesses one of the deviations that might happen while translating children's literature, mainly the readability level of the source text versus the target text. The main question of the current research is to what extent the Persian translations of the English text are different from the original text in terms of text readability. The corpus of the study was one English children's story "Charley and the Chocolate Factory" written by Roald Dahl and its two Persian translations. To measure the readability level of the English text, the free internet software named "Readability- score" was applied using Flesch readability formula and for the Persian texts the Flesch formula modified by Dayyani (1993) was applied which has been used by several scholars in the related fields. Since the mentioned Internet software did not support the Persian language, the calculation procedure for Persian texts was done manually by putting the number of variables in Flesch modified formula. The results indicated that the readability level of English text was about 22 grade levels higher than the two Persian translations. This means that the English text was easier to read for the native children. The findings of this research can help translators working specially on children's literature to keep the readability level in line with the age range they address. Besides, the present study has educational implications for students of translation studies to get familiar with the possible deviations that might happen in translation and also make them familiar with one of the criteria of translation quality assessment, that is, readability level..
