Abstract : The current study is an attempt to provide a multidimensional model of learner autonomy which can develop different aspects of autonomy like self direction, independence of teacher and classroom learning, self reflection and self assessment. The study was quasi-experimental in design and included six groups each with 23-25 intermediate English learners in Jahad Daenshgahi of Kermashah. At the start of the study, PET was administered to ensure the homogeneity of the groups. At the same time, a revised version of the learner autonomy questionnaire designed by Egel (2003) was given to the students. For a period of three months explicit strategy training, computer-assisted language learning, reflective journal writing and self assessment were practiced each in a different class. All the techniques mentioned were also practiced in the fifth experimental class labeled the multidimensional model class. The sixth class served as the control group. After the treatments, the same questionnaire was given to the students and the results of each group were compared to those of the control group. The analyses took place in two phases; in the first, the results of the questionnaire were analyzed dimensionally and in the second, the questionnaire and the results were analyzed as a whole. The analyses indicated the developments of the students' autonomy in all the experimental groups and among the groups the multidimensional one outperformed all the others. The same version of the PET was also used to test any possible improvements in the proficiency of the learners. The analyses of the proficiency test show the development of all the experimental groups except the one in which self assessment was practiced. The multidimensional group also outperformed the other groups in terms of language proficiency. In conclusion, a practical multidimensional model to develop learner autonomy is suggested..
