Needs analysis is an accessible tool for syllabus development, enabling teachers to explore learners' individual characteristics and address their specific needs. Concerning the significant role of needs analysis in English for Specific Purposes (ESP), its role has been neglected in other areas of teaching like teaching translation. This study aimed identifies and analyze the needs and wants of freshmen English Translation students with regard to their target goals. To this end, a descriptive research method was employed. The instruments of the study were a questionnaire and a semi-structured interview. The questionnaire was based on Needs Analysis. The questionnaire was analyzed using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences (SPSS). The data were collected from 96 English translation freshmen B.A students from IAUKB and 10 professional translators graduated from IAUKB. The result of the study showed the necessities, lacks, wants of the students, and a lack of reconciliation between the present syllabus and the students' needs. It can be concluded that students have different needs regarding their target and professional goals. Therefore, exploring their actual needs and tailoring the syllabus design to these needs is a crucial step in teaching translation. It is hoped that the findings of this study would shed light on syllabus design and curriculum development for English translation B.A programs in Iran..
