This study is an attempt to compare the performance of MA and BA EFL learners' on the recognition - based, true false, and sentence completion reading - based tests of metaphor. To achieve the purpose of this study, 50 junior undergraduate and 50 MA graduate students both male and female, majoring in English translation and English teaching were selected from Islamic Azad Universities of Khorasgan and Najafabad. Their age ranged from 21 to 32 with Persian as their L1. The participants were selected out of 140 students through the administration of a 60 - item Quick Placement Test (QPT). Then, in order to explore their metaphorical knowledge the test of metaphors designed based on three different English idiom books were run. After running independent sample t - tests, the findings revealed that BA learners performed better on different aspects of metaphor tests. The findings may add new information to L2 research on EFL metaphor performance, and pedagogically speaking, the findings of the study may have implications for EFL teachers and students..
