Abstract
:
The current study aimed to investigate the application of metaphor in 2o types of texts: literary and economic. To put it clearly, the study, in fact, touches upon the question that whether English economic and literary texts are significantly different as far as metaphors are concerned. To achieve such an objective, a range of English economics and literary texts selected from a set of economics and literary texts including poems, novels, narratives, newspapers articles, and economic reports were collected and analyzed by the researcher. Each text was analyzed to examine how many and what types of metaphor weres used. Finally, the study revealed that, first, both economics and literary texts written by professional English writers make use of metaphorical expressions. Second, the number of metaphors, of any type, used in literary texts is significantly more than that used in economic texts..
