Abstract : test and to test the second hypothesis, ANOVA test were employed. Finally, it was found out that translating the simple past from English into Persian took longer than translating the simple past from Persian into English. Additionally, translating the past progressive from Persian into English took longer than translating the past progressive from English into Persian. Moreover, translating the completed action concept of the simple past from English into Persian and action in progress concept of the past progressive from Persian into English took less time than other concepts. The current study can have pedagogical implications for translators and English teachers. Keywords: Tenses, Simple Past in Persian and English, Past Progressive in Persian and English, Mental Process of a Translator. -Many researchers have tried to consider the approaches by which they can explore the cognitive processes of the translator. For this purpose, the current study considered the ease or difficulty of the mental processes of the translator requiring the time to translate the simple past and past progressive tenses from English into Persian and vice versa. As a result, some participants who were senior students of English translation were selected to translate sentences including different concepts of simple past and past progressive from English into Persian and vice versa. The time given to them to translate one sentence from Persian or English was one minute. For every wrong or untranslated sentence, one minute was added to the total time. The first hypothesis of the study was based on the fact that there were no significant differences between the time needed to translate the simple past and past progressive from English into Persian and from Persian into English.
