Abstract	:	In this thesis, deasphalled bitumen (maltenes) and asphaltenes extracted fromAtliabasca oil sands bitumen, and fumed silica nanoparticles were studied at air-waterand toluene-water interfaces. Interfacial beliaviours of individual components and theirmixtures were characterized with pressure-area isotherms obtained with a Langmuirtrough. Single layer Langmuir-Blodgett films were deposited onto silicon wafers.
