Abstract	:	The finite impulse response (FIR) filter as pre-emphasis technique for high-speed(Gbps) data transmission over physical layer is studied. A top-down designmethodology for a high-speed backplane serializer/deserializer (SERDES) is proposedin this thesis. MATLAB scripts are programmed for optimizing tap coefficients of FIRfilter. The program flow charts are given and a list of program functions are described..
