Abstract	:	Today's conventional single element antennas used in L-band mobile satellitecommunication applications have traditionally been the quadrifilar helix and cross-drooping dipole. The main disadvantages of these single elements are the feed networkcomplexity and the prominent size. The more unconventional elements of the microstrippatch antenna and dielectric resonator antenna offer the advantage of low profile,however; the size of the microstrip antenna and dielectric resonator antenna has beenregarded too large for L-band applications. This thesis presents an investigation intotechniques for reducing the size of the low profile antennas while at the same time.
