Abstract	:	This research effort is driven by the growing interest of network operators in the ability toanalyze the availability and cost of an end-bend path construction in their networks, and toenabIe the operators to provide various levels of assured service availability to customers whilekeeping the cost to a minimum. The specific area of research is survivable ring networks(SONET bi-directional line switched ring) and, m particular. the use of matched-nodes (MN) anddual feeding @Ft configurations at inter-ring connections. The major focus of this thesis is tofmd a way to take advantage of the combined use of MN and DF, which have different costs andavailability properties under dHerent circumstances. Path search strategies are proposed andimplemented in a software prototype. Test cases results based on various requirements of costandfor availability (with constraints) are presented and analyzed..
