Abstract : This thesis proposes and evaluates a bulk mkromachined architecture for implementing futuregeneration multimedia satellite front-end arrays. An open-ended micromachined waveguideaperture array antenna is designed to generate no grating lobes over a 45" scan volume, asrequired by specifications for a future Ka-band multimedia satellite issued by EMS Technologies.Brick and tile array architectures are considered, and a variety of aperture sizes are examined tocompare cutoff characteristics.
