Abstract	:	The ad~ent of ubiquitous computing and the proliferation of portable computingdevices have raised the importance of mobile and wireless networking. A majorchallenge lies in adapting multicast communication to environments wheremobiliv is unlinted and ourages/~ures are fiequenr. This thesis investigatesthe performance of two prominent on demand multicast routing protocols aimedspe&callp at fully Mobile Ad Hoc Networks (MANET) - Multicast Ad hoc On-Demand Vector protocol (MAODV) and On-Demand Multicast RoutingProtocol (ODMRP). We demonsnare that even though MAODV and ODMRPshare similar on-demand behaviour, the differences in protocol mechanics canlead to performance differentials. Based on the observauons, we makerecommendations about how the performance of either protocol as w d as & m eimplementations can be improved-.
