Abstract	:	The AIILTOS Wstenl is targeted to provide residential homes with high-speed wirelessInternet access. Each base-station is dillded into 32 sectors. every fourth sectorreusing the same frequency bands. Doivnlink and uplink use sepaiate frequency bands.-411 s~~bscribers in a sector must share tile same uplink frecluenq- band(s).The AI-AC: proposed in this thesis attempts to allow the subscribers t o arbitrateacccss to the common uplink channel in a fair. efficient. and simple manner. S oat tcrnpt is xnade to provide different cluality of service levels.Traffic in a real L-AS en~ironrnent has been capturcd and used in sinlulations.Tlie collision avoidance scheme d~*naniically changes the transmit probabilityIxlsetl 011 rccent offered load. thereby reclticing the number of collisions. This is seento work better than esponential back off and about the same as spanning tree.O\-erall. the LIILTOS hL4C satisfies the original requirement of a fair. efficient,arid sirnplc protocol..
