Abstract	:	An original technique to transform functional representation of the design into astructural representation in form of a data ow graph (DFG) is described. A canonical,word-level data structure, Taylor Expansion Diagram (TED), is used as a vehicle toeffect this transformation. The problem is formulated as that of applying a sequenceof decomposition cuts to the TED that transforms it into a family of DFGs. Asystematic approach to generate cut sequences and metrics to evaluate the cost ofthe resulting DFGs are described. Experimental results show that such constructedDFGs provide a better starting point for architectural synthesis that those deriveddirectly from HDL specifications.
