Abstract	:	Modeling is a traditional engineering practice for mitigating complexity. Models aremathematically precise abstractions of the system, focusing on relevant aspects. Accordingto the basic assumption, creating and analyzing abstractions is easier than building andstudying the systems themselves. Design models describe the abstraction of the systemبsstructure, whereas analysis models capture the abstraction of its behavior. (The fact thatthose are both abstractions is very important.)In order to better understand the role of modeling, let us examine the process of creatingengineering artifacts in general.
