Abstract : An ultrasonic Distance Measuring transducer has been implemented in this project. Themain application of this project is to develop a distance measuring unit to measure thedistance between the X Ray emitter and patient location in a surgery setup. A PICmicrocontroller was programmed to run and execute the entire system. An optical pulsewas used to synchronize the transmitter and the receiver unit.Two boards for the transmitter and receiver unit was fabricated and setup .The transmitterunit was provided with an optical pulse receiver and the ultrasonic receiver unit wasprovided with an optical pulse transmitter unit. Both the units of the transducer aresynchronized by the optical pulse. The optical pulse is triggered by the user interfacethrough a serial port connection.
