Abstract : Bistatic radars are well known for their distinct advantages like spatial diver-sity and stealthness that monostatic radars cannot provide. Recently there is anincreased interest in Bistatic Synthetic Aperture Radars. A number of algorithmshave been developed for image formation from the bistatic phase history data. Thesealgorithms push the bounds of scene size or resolution but still encounter limits dueto the approximations employed. Also most of these algorithms are computationallyintensive. Hence we need a robust image formation algorithm for real-time imagingapplications.Polar Format Algorithm (PFA) is a fast and very eض‍ective algorithm for BistaticSAR imaging. This classical algorithm too has its limits. It assumes that thespherical wavefronts of the radar pulses can be approximated by plane wavefrontsaround a central reference point in the imaging scene.
