Abstract	:	This thesis work presents custom layout of a 8-bit RISC microcontroller based on generalarchitecture of the PIC 16f54 on AMI 0.6 submicron technology. The system designed isoperative on all 33 general instructions of PIC 16f54 microcontroller. A modifiedarchitecture for branching is implemented. SRAM cells were used as general purposememory. The operating frequency of the chip after simulation was 71.42 MHz (14nSclock period).This thesis also discusses the detailed system analysis and circuit behavior of themicrocontroller. An 8-bit Arithmetic Logic unit, 32 word SRAM array, 12-bit wide InputOutput port, two layered stack segment, a free running counter and its timer module wereall custom designed using Cadenceبs Virtusio Integrated Circuit Design environment to,.............-....,....-...,..tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
