Abstract : The traditional use of SOI CMOS has been in the development of radiation-hardened integratedcircuits for the military and aerospace. Yet, SOI is becoming a mainstream technology in highperformanceand low-power digital applications. Compared to digital, the exploitation of SOI inanalog applications has been minimal. SOIبs floating-body effects are known to be detrimental toanalog circuit performance; particularly, the kink effect. A common method for controllingfloating-body effects has been including body ties to every transistor, but their effectiveness islimited and their benefit comes at the expense of area. In this thesis, the possibility ofimplementing SOI analog circuits where body ties are used selectively to reduce a circuitبs totalarea is studied. Based on a 0.18um adaptation of the PD BSIMSOI2.0 transistor model, a simpletwo-stage op amp was simulated in SPICE3f5 to analyze the effects on performance (e.g. gain,3db and unity-gain frequencies, phase margin) of having specific blocks.............-....,....-...,..tested for theQ1 PC1 bus cardBoth these projects mere sofixare des elopment efforts tonards contributing to dlfferentaspects of Roboucs and lZ1echatronics projects m the Controls and Roboucs Group..
