Abstract : Demand for highly integrated, embedded, and low power devices continue to increase forwide a range of wireless applications. Very high-performance circuits, such as embeddedmicrocontrollers, are designed with low-power consumption and small size as a primaryconcern for wireless application. This thesis presents a performance analysis of an 8-bitembedded microprocessor. The microprocessor is anatomized into six modules. Threemodules are studied and evaluated extensively. Each of these modules exhibits differentpower consumption. The prototype is implemented using TSMC 0.18-pm deepsubmicron CMOS technology, and each module is optimized using the BSIM3v3 SPICEmodel.
